Big Ideas for Little Hands: February 2015

Peek at Week: Do-over Week

Ok, let me just start by saying that I am a true Southern and know nothing about snow. Well this past week, we got hit with a massive snowstorm. I know it's nothing like up north but 9 inches of snow definitely shuts this town down. It was insane. Now, I teach on a military base and they always quickly clear it so we can still have school. We never get snow days, so when I saw the snow I was a little excited but I knew I'd still have to trudge to work in it. But guess what?!?!?! We got a snow day. And not just 1 snow day, we got a whole week!!!! I'm looking out my window now trying to figure out if we will have school tomorrow. We still do not have our roads plowed and buses can not drive on this stuff so we shall see. This is what I got to look at all week. This is more snow than I have seen ever!

This is my street that I am supposed to drive on. Yeah, couldn't find it for a few days.

Haylee sure did have fun playing in it, for 10 minutes, lol. Us Southerns just cannot hang in this cold weather.

And of course since we had snow days, it was hot chocolate and movies every night. Love!

So if we go to school tomorrow we are just going to do a re-do of last week. I think Presidents and American Symbols is so important to teach especially to our military students so I do not want to skip these lessons and activities. And I have so many great things planned I could not imagine tossing it all.

So here is another look at our week on Presidents and American Symbols. And we will see if I get to teach it this week :)

Now I am off to attempt to grab a few things at Walmart. Kind of scared what the store will look like so wish me luck!

Peek at Week: Presidents & America

Loving this 3 day weekend! It's always nice to have an extra day to catch up. We are supposed to get 4-6 inches of snow tonight though. I don't even know what that looks like!!!! HELP!!!! And please don't ruin my day off. Why can't we have snow on a school day so I can finally have a snow day. Come on please postpone your winter downpour by one day. Come on Elsa, wait one more day please!!!! But honestly, every time they predict a huge snowstorm we get nothing so I'm not holding my breath. This is what I am totally expecting :)

Last night me and Haylee celebrated Valentine's Day together with an ice cream date! We did not want to fight the crowds at restaurants so ice cream sounded perfect!

Haylee also had her Valentine's Day dance at school. She is growing up way to fast!

The hubs is spending the weekend at Mardi Gras with the boys. So jealous that I couldn't go but the timing and plane tickets were not agreeing with me. At least he is having a blast!

Last week it was all about Valentine's Day! We made this adorable Valenswine Piggy from Cara Carroll. My favorite Valentine's Day craft!

Mrs. Davis because she is there for me (I completely melted)
I like my mom and my day and you and love Gauge and Andrew.

Gauge because he is my Olaf and my lollipop (how funny! I have a mini crush going on, love it!)

I love Mrs. Davis. I love Gauge, he is the best!

I felt so loved by my kiddos! They definitely showered me with Valentine's gifts. I love them all!

Next week (if we don't have snow days from our massive "snow storm" that is supposed to be coming hahaha) We will be diving into learning about President's and our country. This is a big unit for us since I teach on an Army post. This unit is very dear to our hearts. So excited to dive in! Come take a look at what we will be up to.

Peek at Week: Valentine's Day

Oh what a busy a cold week we have had. Being so cold has caused me to lose motivation to get things done. If it is going to be in the single digits can we at least have snow and a snow ?!?!?! Not that I want snow or like it all but at least it would give me a day to stay inside and maybe get things done. This last semester of college is just draining every free moment I have and a day to catch up would be amazing. Ok, rant over and now on to a look back at this past week.

This past week we learned about that groundhog that insists on making this winter longer this year. Our class was not very impressed with his predictions. We are ready to go outside and play. We did many activities during Daily 5 that related to groundhogs.
We are loving the game Roll & Cover! This time they had to practice adding 1 when they rolled the die. This is from Christina Mauro.

In math centers we practiced sequencing numbers from The Printable Princess

We also practiced our CVC words. This is a favorite each week. These are also from The Printable Princess. We love her monthly packs!!!

We are beginning to work on blends. Students had to sort if the pictures began with a g, r, or gr sound. Sorry for the bad quality of the cards. My printer has new ink but decided to act up on me. Just one of those days :) This is also from Christina Mauro.

We also made these adorable groundhog books and projects. Each day we added another page to our book then on Friday We made a groundhog to hold our book. How cute are these from Kim Adsit!

Now onto this week. This week is a short week, we have Professional Development on Friday.  We will be talking about Valentine's Day this week and will end our week with our Valentine's Day Pizza Party and valentine exchange. Come take a look at what we will be up to this week.
Thanks for stopping by to see what we have been up to! Now head on over to DeeDee's blog to see what more teachers are up to this week!

Peek at Week - Groundhog Day

It's Super Bowl time!!! I am actually snuggled up on the couch with my baby girl watching the Puppy Bowl waiting for the big game to start. They are just so cute!!! I'm honestly not super excited about the Big Game. We are just going to watch it for background noise to say that we did. I am not a sports fan at all and didn't even know who was playing until yesterday. Totally out of the loop here. With the hubs gone and no party to go to it's just kind of a normal rainy Sunday here.

I am going to make this post short and sweet. I have a ton of college homework that I need to work on. I have definitely been procrastinating on this one. YIKES!

This past week we celebrated our 100th day of school! It was a blast. You can check out the details here. We also explored polar bears and sadly I didn't take any pictures. I'm so sorry guys. I'll try to do better this week.

This week we are exploring Groundhog's day and light and shadows. I am so excited to use Mary's Lights and Shadows pack this week. It looks amazing! Come take a look at what we will be up to this week!
