Big Ideas for Little Hands: November 2015

Cyber Monday Wishlist

Ok, who loves Black Friday?!?!?! This girl right here does!! I love searching the sale ads, making a plan of attack, fighting the crowds, and grabbing those awesome deals. It is a crazy thrill that I look forward to every year! Surprisingly this year I did most of my shopping online before we even headed out. Let me tell you people, online is totally the way to go. Let's just say that after spending way to much online at Aeropostale and at Kohl's, I really didn't have to go out but I still totally did. But We did score some awesome things and stocked up on winter clothes for our polar freeze move to Kansas in a few short months. I am so not ready for cold weather!!!

Anyways, I am so excited about Cyber Monday! More shopping and all online from the comfort of my couch. Now who agrees with me that we totally need Cyber Monday off so that we can shop in our PJs all day long! Raising both hands over here.

And of course, TPT is having a huge sale! So I definitely need the day off to shop for classroom resources. That's work related so it should count as a workday instead :) I am linking up with Jen from Teaching in the Tongass for a most wishlisted linky!

Check out some of the top wish listed items from my store that you may want to snatch up during the big sale!

My kids love Interactive notebooks and these are great at helping them learn their sight words! They are so excited to use these every day! Check them out below.

Like I said, we love Interactive Notebooks and my kids beg for them. We even use them with our Reading Curriculum to help reinforce those skills. It makes teaching the curriculum so much more enjoyable for me and for the kids. These are great for small groups, whole groups, and centers. Check them out below.

Finally is my SmartBoard Companions. These have been an absolute lifesaver for me. These take zero prep work for you which is a definite win! They cover every skill in the basal so you won't miss anything. Perfect to leave for a sub too! And even better, they are interactive and engaging for the kids. Many slides are even great for center work! Check them out below.

I have a few new Flippy Flaps that I posted this week that would be perfect to grab during the sale to use during the month of December. We are loving the Flippy Flaps and we learn so much while making them! Check them out below.

Peek at Week: Gingerbread

Oh how I have enjoyed these past few days off! It was much needed time to relax and spend time with the family. Hubby was able to meet us in GA for a few days for the holidays before he had to head back off to Alabama. This year, my mom hosted Thanksgiving and of course, me and Haylee helped out. Haylee was a huge helping making these amazing Peanut Butter Dream Bars

And the boys, they stayed out of the kitchen and in the back yard frying the turkey. I absolutely love fried turkey! Once you try it, I promise you will not eat turkey any other way. I mean seriously, look at how delicious that bird looks!

We had an amazing Thanksgiving feast and leftovers for days!

And I think this was the first time all of the grandkids were in the same place so a family picture was a must!

But today is back to reality as we drive back to KY and back to work tomorrow. I am so excited about these next few weeks!!! It will be everything Christmas!!! And I love everything Christmas!! The only problem is figuring out how to squeeze everything in. We will start by introducing our Elf! This is one of my favorite things to do in December. Follow me on Facebook and Instagram to see all of our Elf Antics throughout the month.

We are starting out December with Gingerbread Week!It will be everything Gingerbread! We will also be using our newest Flippy Flap! Check it out below!

Mindful Eating Challenge: Week 1

Last week DeeDee and Rachel posted about a new challenge they were doing. Once I read it, I knew that I had to participate! One of my personal goals this school year was to get healthy again. Now I mean I'm not super unhealthy by any means but I know that I can definitely improve. I work out almost every day and go on walks every night, but I was not watching what I ate at all. So starting this school year I have vowed to get better. And guess what! I have lost 8lbs since school has started! That's about a pound every week to two weeks. I will take that! Well, now the holiday season is approaching and here comes the hard part. Cue the amazing challenge!

Now this challenge isn't a diet plan or anything crazy. It's just about being mindful of what you are eating and every little thing that you eat. To help keep track of what I eat, I log everything into My Fitness Pal App. I would love to have more friends to keep me accountable. My name is DDgirl4ever head on over to find me!

Now onto week 1 of the challenge!

What worked:
1. Logging my food into MyFitnessPal has really helped keep me on track. I am able to see how many calories I have left for the day and am making better decisions about what I eat. The key though is to log EVERYTHING!!!!! Even that one tiny milky way that is too small to have any calories right?!?! Sadly, it counts too.

2. I have a gym buddy and we work out every day and walk every night. We keep each other accountable and push each other to do better each day. I could not survive the torture of the gym without her! Find a friend and workout with them. Makes it so much more enjoyable!

3. Meal prep! I try to plan my meals out for the week every Sunday. If you don't then you are tempted to grab fast food or something quick and unhealthy. I only spend about 10 minutes planning meals with my daughter then a quick trip to the grocery store and we are ready for the week! Maybe one day soon I will blog about some of our favorite go to recipes.

1. Some days it is super hard to get all of your steps in. You know those days that you are in meetings all day and you get home and you still have 7,000 steps to go! Ugh! Hate that feeling. One way I overcame that this week was I gave up my lunch break and chose to walk around the outside of the school for my break instead. Came home and only had 2,000 step left. WIN!!!

2. This week was a crazy week of unexpected trips. Due to a death in my family, I rushed out of town to be with my family. Because of this I did skip a few sessions at the gym and may not of had the best choices in food. However, I did try to control the portion size to help. It's all about thinking about the choices you are making when you are eating.

3. Water. I am usually great about getting my water in for the day plus a ton more. I have a water schedule so I can make sure I get all of my water in each day. Well, let's be honest. When you drink that much water, you live in the bathroom. And when you are on a road trip it is not exactly feasible to stop at 27 gas stations to go to the bathroom during a 5 hour trip. I am hoping to get back on track this week.

Looking Ahead:
1. This week is Thanksgiving. That should be enough said. All of the amazing foods and desserts and going to two different Thanksgiving dinners. Ugh! This will definitely be tough. Here is my plan.
-Be really mindful of what I eat Sunday-Wednesday
-Exercise every day Sunday-Wednesday
-Go for a run Thursday morning
-Eat a small breakfast Thursday morning
-Drink a lot of water
-Then enjoy my Thanksgiving dinner and not feel guilty
-Go on a nice long walk afterwards

That is my plan for this week! Fingers crossed things go as planned this week and I can stay on track. Now head on over to Rachel's blog to see how others are staying on track this week!

For Blogness Sake

Peek at Week: Thanksgiving Part 2

This past week has been a whirlwind of a week. I started out the week by heading down to Nashville for two days to listen to these two amazing ladies present. I always love going to conferences to get new ideas and I feel so energized and ready to teach when I walk out the door. And it's a huge plus when you get to meet blogging friends in real life!!! Cannot wait to start using these amazing ideas in the classroom!

Reagan Tunstall from Tunstall's Teaching Tidbits
Cara Carroll from The First Grade Parade

I finally made it back in the classroom on Wednesday for some Turkey fun! We had a blast learning about Turkeys and making some super cute turkeys!

from DeeDee Wills (sorry for the sideways pic, blogger is being silly today)

We practiced making predictions about the book A Turkey For Thanksgiving. This is from Deanna Jump and DeeDee Wills' Guided Reading Pack.

Thursday was our Thanksgiving Feast. So many families came and it was such an amazing experience. Everyone decorated the cafeteria and I think it turned out great!
These are the projects from my class. They are from Cara Carroll and they are a freebie!!!

Then I received some heart breaking news. My grandfather passed away. He had a heart problem and was not doing well at all. I had planned to go to GA this weekend to visit with him but we were not able to make it in time. I left work Thursday after school and headed down to be with my family. He was the best grandfather and great grandfather that anyone could ask for. He will truly be missed but I know that he is up in heaven watching over us.

Next week is a two day week at school. I am leaving GA in just a few minutes to head back up and teach for two days. I do miss my little ones since I have not seen them much lately. Then Tuesday after work I will be heading back down to GA for Thanksgiving with my family! Even though I have not been at school much this past week, I am so ready for a short little break! Check out what we will be doing these next two days!

Now head on over to DeeDee's blog to see what others are up to this week? Do you have the week off or do you have to teach two days too?
